2012 All-Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Teams

Three members of the Capital University men's soccer team garnered All-Ohio Athletic Conference accolades as the league announced its All-OAC teams on Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Senior Al Argyris (Centerville, Ohio) was picked to the second team, while junior Nick Eley (Pickerington, Ohio) and sophomore R.G. Florey (Westerville, Ohio) earned honorable mention.

The Crusaders wrapped up the 2012 season last week at 9-6-4 overall, including a 4-3-2 record in the conference. Capital reached the OAC Tournament quarterfinals, where it was defeated 3-2 at Heidelberg.

Argyris, a forward, enjoyed a fine season as one of the league's top offensive threats. He posted eight goals and four assists for 20 points, which tied for the team lead, and played all 19 matches for the Crusaders. Argyris, who entered last week ranked in the top 10 in the league in points, goals and assists, recorded a season-high four points (two goals) against Wabash (Ind.) on Sept. 26.

"Al was dynamic with the ball and a threat to any team's defense," Capital coach Alan Yost said. "He grew up as a player and a leader. We counted on him to be a difference-maker, and he was. He's not someone who's easily replaced."

Eley was one of the Capital's most important pieces in the midfield. In 18 matches, Eley registered four goals and three assists for 11 points. He contributed with the game-winning goal against Muskingum on Oct. 23 and three of his four tallies were against OAC foes. Eley also earned honorable mention All-OAC in 2011.

"I felt Nick did a good job as an attacking player even though it wasn't really his job to score," Yost said. "His job was to put pressure on the opposing defense and create opportunities with his work ethic. He'll need to be a scorer for us next year."

Florey, a team leader in every sense who along with Argyris was one of four team captains, also finished with eight goals and four assists for 20 points, playing in 15 matches and missing four due to injury. Florey recorded two-goal efforts on Sept. 7 at Trine and on Oct. 20 at Baldwin Wallace. He was named OAC Player of the Week on Oct. 22 after totaling two goals and two assists in a pair of Crusader wins.

"R.G. was never really 100 percent during conference play, but he stepped up as a difference-maker," Yost said. "It's a blessing to have him for two more years. His biggest strength is his leadership, helping the team control the mental and emotional side of things."

OAC regular season and tournament champion Ohio Northern swept the league's individual awards as Coach of the Year Brent Ridenour led the Polar Bears to their fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.
