Capital University junior Tim McCarthy earned Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week accolades, the league announced Monday, Oct. 1.
McCarthy, a native of Dayton, Ohio, posted two goals and an assist last week to help the Crusaders push their unbeaten streak to seven matches (4-0-3).
"Tim has done a very good job for us," Capital coach Alan Yost said. "He brings a spark to the field and is improving every day. We rely on him to finish opportunities. I couldn't be more happy for him … this is well-deserved."
Against Wabash last Wednesday, McCarthy opened second-half scoring with a strike to the left side of the goal in the 47th minute. The forward later assisted on senior Al Argyris's goal to finish with three points in the contest and help Capital win 5-1 at Bernlohr Stadium.
After the Crusaders fell behind 1-0 at John Carroll on Saturday, McCarthy found the back of the net for the equalizer in the 39th minute. Neither team scored in the second half as Capital held on for a draw in the team's OAC opener.
McCarthy, whose brothers Steven and Dan were men's soccer standouts at Capital, currently sits third on the team with five points for the year. He appeared in 19 matches (seven starts) and had one goal and two assists in 2011.
Each week, OAC coaches and sports information directors nominate student-athletes for each sport in season for the award.
