The Capital University men's soccer team started its first road trip of the 2012 season on a high note Friday, defeating host Trine 2-1 in the first game of the two-day Kenter Classic in Angola, Ind.
Sophomore R.G. Florey (Westerville, Ohio; at right) provided two goals to lead the Crusaders (2-2 overall), who controlled play and outshot the Thunder 12-6.
"We struggled to find a rhythm as Trine had a great scouting report and marked our key players," Capital coach Alan Yost said. "With that said, R.G. did a fantastic job of leading by example and helping us get a result tonight."
Junior goalkeeper Bob Weisgarber (Columbus, Ohio) tallied two saves to lead Capital.
After Trine (1-2) opened scoring in the 49th minute, Florey found the back of the net twice in a four-minute span, giving the Crusaders the lead for good with a goal in the 64th minute. The Thunder had a goal taken off the board just prior to Capital's scoring barrage.
Weisgarber preserved the one-goal lead with a save with 14 seconds to play.
"Trine was a very well-organized team," Yost said. "With the weather conditions, it was a struggle, but it was a good result for us."
The Crusaders conclude tournament play tomorrow against Kalamazoo (Mich.). Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
