The Capital University men's tennis team put forth a valiant effort with its season on the line Wednesday, but fell just short in a 5-0 loss at Ohio Northern in an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal in Ada, Ohio.

The seventh-seeded Crusaders finish the season with a 7-19 record, including a 3-6 mark in conference play. The No. 2 seeded Polar Bears advance to the semifinals to face No. 3 Otterbein on Friday in Mason, Ohio.

Capital was competitive against Ohio Northern (11-5) in doubles, winning games in all three of its matches. Senior Tommy Stein (Clyde, Ohio) and freshman Adrian Tolentino (Orrville, Ohio) had the most success, claiming four games in an 8-4 defeat at No. 2 doubles. The No. 1 pair of junior John Murray (Bolingbrook, Ill.) and freshman Kenny Duncan (Poland, Ohio) suffered an 8-2 setback, while junior Doug Gugel-Bryant (Lancaster, Ohio) and freshman Josh Dotson (Temperance, Mich.) fell by an identical 8-2 score at No. 3.

The Polar Bears claimed the team win with victories at the Nos. 3 and 4 singles spots, ending all other matches in progress.

The Crusaders return all players in 2012-13 except Stein, who will graduate this spring. Returners include Murray and Duncan, the team's top two singles players, as well as the rest of Wednesday's lineup.
