Capital University junior Joshua Woods finished 19th in the nation in the long jump Thursday at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Claremont, Calif.

A Marysville, Ohio, native, Woods registered his best jump on his first try, posting a leap of 22-07.25. His second mark was 22-03.75, and he recorded a 22-03.00 in the third round.

Isaac Vasquez, a junior from Wisconsin-La Crosse, won the national title with a leap of 24-11.75. The top eight finishers earned All-American honors.

Woods had qualified for the NCAA Championships after posting a leap of 23-08.25 at the Crusaders' last meet of the season. His mark, which occurred at the North Central College Gregory Invite last Friday, was the 18th-best in the nation to that point and is currently the school record.

A two-time H. Dillard Award winner as the Most Outstanding Sprint Athlete at the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, Woods also qualified for the long jump at the national indoor championships in 2010, when he placed 15th. He advanced to the NCAAs in the 200-meter dash during the same year in the outdoor season.

Woods holds four school records and was the OAC indoor champion in the 200 in 2010.
