Crusaders Edge Mount St. Joseph in First Fall Match

The Capital University women's tennis team won its opening match of the 2011-12 season Thursday afternoon, defeating Mount St. Joseph 5-4 in a dual match on the Capital campus.

Capital secured two of the three doubles points, with returning starters Meredith Wedell (Columbus, Ohio) and Collyn Weaver (Upper Sandusky, Ohio) winning 8-4 at No. 2 doubles. The Crusaders also won the third doubles court by default. Playing together for the first time, senior Michelle Guy (Bexley, Ohio) and freshman Alyssa Trier (Venetia, Pa.) battled hard at No. 1 doubles before falling 8-6.

Sophomore Katie MacFarland (Clyde, Ohio) dominated her match at No. 4 singles, and with a win at No. 5 singles, sophomore Sara Ireland (Charleston, W.Va.) secured the Capital victory.
