The Capital University women's tennis team saw its 2011-12 season come to an end Tuesday, falling 5-0 at John Carroll in an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal at University Heights, Ohio.

The seventh-seeded Crusaders (3-16 overall), making their first conference tournament appearance since 2008, fought valiantly against the No. 2 seeded Blue Streaks, but came up short as the match ended as soon as JCU had won the fifth and decisive point.

John Carroll (13-3) seized the first three points in doubles. The second doubles pair of senior Michelle Guy (Bexley, Ohio) and sophomore Collyn Weaver (Upper Sandusky, Ohio) went down 8-0, followed by an 8-1 setback at No. 3 by freshman Corinne Hohenstein (Sidney, Ohio) and freshman Rebecca Hunt (Cincinnati, Ohio). Sophomore Betsy McLaughlin (Granville, Ohio) and freshman Alyssa Trier (Venetia, Pa.), Capital's No. 1 doubles pair, took three games before falling 8-3.

McLaughlin and Trier were the first matches to finish at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, leaving the third, fourth, fifth and sixth singles matches unfinished.

With all but one player slated to return for the 2012-13 season, the Crusaders look to continue their improvement to rise in the OAC standings when play resumes in the fall.
