The Capital University women's tennis team won its Ohio Athletic Conference opening match Saturday afternoon, beating Heidelberg 5-4 at Lakewood Racket Club in Lexington, Ohio.

Sophomore Rebecca Hunt (Cincinnati, Ohio) claimed the deciding match, coming from one set down to clinch a three-set victory at No. 6 singles.

The Crusaders (3-5 overall, 1-0 OAC) opened the day taking two of the three doubles courts, with the No. 2 duo of sophomore Alyssa Trier (Venetia, Pa.) and freshman Jennie Schott (Pickerington, Ohio) and the third pair of juniors Katie MacFarland (Clyde, Ohio) and Betsey McLaughlin (Granville, Ohio) securing wins.

Trier made it a two-for-two day, winning in straight sets at No. 4 singles, and sophomore Corinne Hohenstein (Sidney, Ohio) won her second match in as many days at No. 5 singles.

After Heidelberg (1-7, 0-1) grabbed singles wins on Courts 1,2 and 3, the stage was set for Hunt, who after dropping the first set 6-4, came back under pressure with a solid performance to win the second and third sets, 6-2, 6-2.

Prior to Saturday, Capital had been defeated 9-0 by the 'Berg in consecutive seasons.

The Crusaders return to the courts over the Easter break, hosting Central State on Saturday at noon. The team hosts Marietta in its OAC home opener on April 6.
