Capital University junior Josh Woods has qualified in the long jump for the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships as the NCAA announced qualifiers in both the men's and women's events early Sunday.

Woods, a Marysville, Ohio, native, posted his nationally-qualifying time of 23-08.25 feet in the long jump, a program record, on Friday at the North Central College Gregory Invite. He finished third in the event, but recorded the 18th-best time in NCAA Division III this season to make his way into the field of 20 competitors.

Woods enters the championships, which begin this Thursday and run through Saturday, with two NCAA appearances already under his belt. He qualified for the long jump for the indoor meet in 2010, and competed in the 200-meter dash at the outdoor championships two less than three months later.

Woods is a two-time H. Dillard Award winner as the Most Outstanding Sprint Athlete at the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He was the 2010 OAC Indoor champion in the 200-meter dash, and currently holds school records in the 200-meter dash (indoor & outdoor), long jump (outdoor) and triple jump (indoor).

Several other Crusaders barely missed out on invitations to the NCAA Championships. The women's 4x400-meter relay team of seniors Kwesi Seabrook (Dayton, Ohio), Sarah Trick (Tipp City, Ohio), junior Aimee Hall (Amanda, Ohio) and sophomore Caitlin Prange (Columbus, Ohio) peaked Friday at the NCC Gregory Invite with a school-record time of 3:51.75, good for 26th in the nation. Junior Emily Sheets (discus, 33rd in nation), freshman Travon Bodrick (triple jump, 40th) and Trick (800-meter run, 50th) also registered near-qualifying times.
