Capital University seniors Emily Sheets and Emma McCarron will compete in the 2013 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships this Thursday-Saturday, May 23-25, at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, the NCAA announced Sunday.

McCarron, a distance runner from Mansfield, Ohio, has qualified for the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Sheets, a Gahanna, Ohio, native who competes in several events, will participate in the discus throw.

Student-athletes with the nation's top 22 marks in each individual event received invitations to compete in La Crosse.

McCarron's school-record time of 11:00.68 is the 16th-fastest in the 3,000 steeplechase field. She is just over 30 seconds off the nation's top pace of 10:26.16, held by Keri Lambert of Amherst (Mass.).

Sheets' top toss of 139-08.00, or 42.58 meters, is a school record and the nation's No. 22 mark. Kelly Allen of Tufts (Mass.) has Division III's top throw at 162-05.50 (49.52).

Neither McCarron nor Sheets has ever qualified for an NCAA Championships indoor or outdoor meet. McCarron twice reached the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.

Check back later this week for a full preview on each student-athlete.
