Capital University senior Emma McCarron ran a 22:34.6 to place 75th Saturday at the 2012 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.

McCarron, a Mansfield, Ohio, native, finished her four-year cross country career as one of the top female student-athletes in school history. She earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors three times, All-Great Lakes Region accolades twice and on Saturday, competed for the second time at the NCAA Championships.

After placing 163rd at the race in 2011, McCarron improved by nearly 90 spots and finished just outside of the top quarter of the 277 participants. She was the second OAC runner to cross the finish line after Ohio Northern's Alison Steinbrunner, who finished as the national runner-up.

McCarron's fantastic 2012 campaign included six top 11 finishes, including three in the top four.

Johns Hopkins (Md.) won the team NCAA title, while Christy Cazzola of Wisconsin-Oshkosh took home the individual championship in the meet, which was hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
