Capital University junior Devan Boggs became the fourth All-American in Crusader softball history Friday as she was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-American third team.

Boggs, a shortstop from West Jefferson, Ohio, is Capital's first softball All-American since Lindsay Shepherd in 2007. She is the lone representative of the Ohio Athletic Conference on the All-American team, and is currently the only Crusader to earn All-America honors in 2011-12.

Boggs solidified her spot as one of the most deadly hitters in the conference and the region after yet another fine season, her third with the team. She leads the conference in on-base percentage (.500) and slugging percentage (.789), and paced the team and finished among league leaders in batting average (.459), runs (33), hits (61) and triples (4). In addition to hitting seven home runs and stealing seven bases, Boggs also tied the program record with 15 doubles and took the all-time lead in career doubles.

As a result of her standout campaign, Boggs earned first team All-OAC honors for the second consecutive season, and was picked first team Division III All-Central Region by the NFCA. She was also selected to the Capital One Academic All-District VII first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Prior to the season's end, Boggs collected the Gene Slaughter Award for athletic and academic excellence at the Honors Convocation on April 18.

The 2010 OAC Rookie of the Year, Boggs is a three-time all-conference and all-region selection overall.
