Capital University sophomores Brooke Billings and Kelsey Swain have been selected as Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Players of the Week, the league announced Tuesday, March 5.

Billings, a pitcher from Clyde, Ohio, was tabbed OAC Pitcher of the Week, while Swain, an outfielder from Pickerington, Ohio, was named OAC Hitter of the Week.

The two helped lead the Crusaders to a 6-2 record in games played last week in Clermont, Fla. Capital continues play on March 15-16 at the two-day Salisbury (Md.) Tournament.

Billings (at right) posted a 3-1 record with a 0.51 earned run average and appeared in seven of the team's eight games. She registered complete-game victories over Immaculata (Pa.) and Hanover (Ind.) during the trip. Billings also recorded her first career save in the Crusaders' win over SUNY Canton.

Billings, who also earned a win against Johnson & Wales (R.I.) during the trip, was a part of two shutouts, combining with classmate Alyssa Patznick (Newark, Ohio) for a 1-0 shutout triumph in eight innings against 2012 NCAA regional qualifier Alma (Mich.).

Swain (at left) posted hits in all six games she appeared in and hit .550 (11-for-20) during the Florida swing. Against Immaculata, Swain finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored, an inside-the-park home run and three runs batted in. In the team's last two games of the trip against Johnson & Wales and Alma, she reached base in all six of her plate appearances and hit a pair of doubles.

Each week, OAC coaches and sports information directors nominate student-athletes for each sport in season for the award.
