Capital University senior Devan Boggs and sophomore Kelsey Swain of the Crusader softball team have been selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-Central Region first team, the organization announced Friday, May 10.
Boggs, a shortstop from West Jefferson, Ohio, earned first team accolades for the second consecutive season after garnering second team honors in both 2010 and 2011. Swain, an outfielder from Pickerington, Ohio, is a first-time member of the all-region team.
The Crusaders are currently taking part in the NCAA Regional Tournament in Angola, Ind. Capital is 35-11 overall and 1-1 so far in tournament play, and takes on nationally second-ranked Trine tomorrow in an elimination game.
Boggs and Swain each played a crucial role this season in helping the Crusaders win the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season championship for the first time since 2002.
The OAC Player of the Year, Boggs enters Saturday's game with a .488 batting average and 79 hits, including 16 doubles, five triples, 14 home runs and 53 runs batted in. Her .907 slugging percentage and .531 on-base percentage also lead the team and rank among conference leaders.
Boggs also earned her third consecutive first team All-OAC selection and second straight Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District first team honor.
Swain currently ranks second on the team with a .426 batting average to go along with seven doubles, three triples and 23 RBIs. Her 14 stolen bases top the team and rank among league leaders.
Swain has been tabbed second team all-conference in each of the last two seasons.
Boggs and Swain make up two of the OAC's six first team all-region selections.
