Capital University senior Devan Boggs has been named a first team National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-American, the organization announced Thursday night at the NCAA Softball Championship Banquet in Eau Claire, Wis.

Boggs, a West Jefferson, Ohio, native, is one of just 15 players in the nation to earn the prestigious honor. The shortstop garnered third team All-America accolades from the NFCA last season.

Boggs is one of four All-Americans in the program all time, and her 2013 award represents the fifth in team history. She is the lone representative on the first team from the Ohio Athletic Conference.

The 2013 OAC Player of the Year, Boggs helped guide the Crusaders to the team's first OAC regular season championship and NCAA Division III Tournament appearance since 2002 as well as a school-record 35 victories. She led the team and the conference in runs (50), hits (81), triples (5), home runs (14), runs batted in (53) and slugging percentage (.898). Boggs batted .488 and, with 16 doubles, became the league's all-time leader in career doubles. She saved some of her best play for the postseason, receiving All-Tournament team recognition at both the OAC Tournament and NCAA Regional in Angola, Ind.

Boggs earned first team All-OAC accolades for the third straight season, first team NFCA All-Great Lakes Region honors for the second straight year and Capital One Academic All-District first team merits from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the second consecutive campaign.

Earlier this week, Boggs represented Capital as the female recipient of the OAC Clyde Lamb Award, given to a student-athlete bringing credit to his/her institution both on and off the field. She earned the school's William F. Bernlohr Award for achievement in athletics and scholarship, as well as responsibility, leadership and religious principles.
