Capital University junior Justin Hoying of the Crusader baseball team has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 21, the league announced Monday.
Hoying, a right-hander from Fort Loramie, Ohio, was selected along with Heidelberg's Ethan Holt.
Hoying recorded a complete-game shutout in the first game of Capital's doubleheader sweep over Wilmington on Saturday. He struck out a career-high nine over seven innings of work, scattering five hits while walking just two batters.
After missing the entire 2012 season following Tommy John surgery, Hoying currently leads the team in starts (eight), innings pitched (43.0) and strikeouts (31). He is 3-3 with a 4.60 earned run average on the year.
Each week, OAC coaches and sports information directors nominate student-athletes for each sport in season for the award.
