Capital University junior Jamie Caton was named Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period from Dec. 17-Jan. 1, the league announced Wednesday.
Caton, a forward from Hilliard, Ohio, averaged 15.0 points and 5.0 rebounds to help the Crusaders post a 2-1 record during that span. She scored a game-high 18 points along with seven rebounds to help Capital hand then-No. 2 Mount Union its first loss of the season on Dec. 22 at the Capital Center. Caton's block of a lay-up attempt in the closing moments of the contest helped the Crusaders preserve a 59-57 victory, the team's first over the Purple Raiders after seven straight setbacks in the series.
Against Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Monday, Caton tallied 11 points, three rebounds and team-highs of three blocks and five steals as Capital posted a 62-54 triumph in its non-conference finale.
In the team's only other game during that span on Dec. 19 at Wilmington, Caton recorded 16 points, five rebounds and three steals despite fighting foul trouble throughout the contest. The Crusaders overcame a slow start to force overtime, but eventually fell 76-68.
For the season, Caton leads the team with 12.8 points per game and averages 4.9 rebounds per contest. She also leads Capital with 27 steals and 16 blocks, the latter of which is first in the conference, and has started all 12 of the team's games.
