Stanford Steps Down as Head Football Coach at Capital

Capital University head football coach Henry Stanford has resigned from his position effective immediately, director of athletics Steve Bruning announced Tuesday, Nov. 13.

In his three seasons at the helm of the program, Stanford posted a record of 12-18, including a 12-15 mark in the Ohio Athletic Conference. He became the 10th head coach in Capital football history in March 2010 and also served as a winter game manager for the athletics department.

The Crusaders wrapped up the 2012 season on Saturday with a 40-21 victory at Wilmington. Capital finished the campaign at 2-8 (2-7 OAC) to place eighth in the conference.

"On behalf of Capital University, I'd like to thank Coach Stanford for his contributions to the football program and the institution over the past three seasons," Bruning said. "We wish nothing but the best for Henry and his family moving forward."

Prior to becoming head coach, Stanford served for two seasons as offensive coordinator for the Crusaders. He was named OAC Assistant Coach of the Year in 2009 after helping guide Capital to a 7-3 record.

A national search for the position of head football coach will begin immediately. Those interested in applying for the position should contact Bruning at [email protected].
