Nearly 30 members of the Capital University football program took part in the 2012 Marc Levinson 5K Run/Walk for Lou Gehrig's Disease on Sunday, Sept. 2.

The event, which raised money to help find a cure for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), began in front of Jeffrey Mansion and continued in a one-loop course through the streets of Bexley.

According to the ALS Association, ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Nearly 5,600 Americans are diagnosed with the eventually fatal disease each year.

The Crusaders, who opened the 2012 season Saturday with a loss against Wittenberg, annually take part in the event.
