The Capital University football team will take part in two initiatives this Saturday as part of its Ohio Athletic Conference opener at 2 p.m. against Marietta at Bernlohr Stadium.

Samaritan's Feet

Head coach Henry Stanford will run out onto the field Saturday in bare feet, but not to make a fashion statement of any kind.

Stanford will join several other football personalities around the nation, including NFL star Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers, in raising awareness for Samaritan's Feet, a community of volunteers jointed to make a difference in the lives of an estimated 4.5 million impoverished children and adults in 60 countries. According to the organization, two-thirds of the world's population lives on less than $2.50 per day.

The Crusaders will take up a collection of new or lightly used shoes at each home game this season. Donations will be collected in the main entrance, prior to entering the stadium.

NCAA Take a Kid to a Game Day

Capital University invites all area children to attend Saturday's game. Children have the opportunity to experience a college football game as the Crusaders host NCAA Football's 17th annual "Take A Kid to the Game" (TAKG) program presented by Coca-Cola and sponsored by Corporate Champions AT&T and Capital One.

All children ages 14 and under accompanied by an adult will receive free admission.

Capital is one of more than 200 schools across the nation that hosting a game in this campaign focused on allowing youth the opportunity to attend college football games. The Take A Kid to the Game® program is entering into its 16th year in the promotion of collegiate athletics.
