Capital University senior Spencer Niekamp has been selected Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference for the second consecutive year as the league announced its 2013 Academic All-OAC winter honorees on Tuesday, March 5.

Niekamp, a forward on the men's basketball team, recently finished his career as the program's No. 12 all-time scorer with 1,288 points. The St. Henry, Ohio, native received the Dick Reynolds Award as OAC Player of the Year after leading the Crusaders to a second consecutive conference regular season championship.

Niekamp was one of 76 OAC student-athletes and the lone Capital student-athlete to earn academic all-conference accolades. He has maintained a 3.50 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and will graduate this May with a bachelor's in marketing. Niekamp was a 2012 Academic All-OAC honorable mention selection.

Award winners must be of sophomore or higher in class standing, be of varsity status and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50.

After ranking among the top 10 in the league and leading the team with 15.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest, Niekamp was picked to his second straight All-OAC first team and third All-OAC Tournament team overall. He finished third in the league in 3-point percentage, shooting 47.2 percent from distance.

In 2011-12, he also earned NABC All-District second team honors and D3hoops.com All-Region third team accolades after helping Capital win the conference regular season and tournament titles and reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
