Capital University men's basketball senior Spencer Niekamp will wear No. 40 and play for the West in the Reese's Division III College All-Star Game this Saturday at Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va.

Niekamp, a forward from St. Henry, Ohio, will play with eight other players from around the nation in the game, which begins at 3:30 p.m. prior to the NCAA Tournament semifinal contests.

Mike Turner, the 2009 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Distinguished Service Award recipient, will coach the West. Turner coached for 38 years at Albion (Mich.) College, where he led the Brits to four NCAA Tournament appearances.

Jeff Gamber, formerly of York (Pa.) College and the 1997 NABC Distinguished Service Award winner, will coach the East.

Niekamp was selected to participate in the game in a fan vote earlier this month. He was one of two players from a pool of eight picked in a poll on D3hoops.com.

After being selected Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Year and first team All-OAC, Niekamp earned first team All-Great Lakes Region accolades from D3hoops.com and first team All-District honors from the NABC. He led the Crusaders to their second consecutive OAC regular season championship and was picked to his third All-OAC Tournament team.
